British Gas Smart Meter Rollout

While the national rollout of smart meters won’t start until 2012, British Gas is eager to update their customers about the benefits of this exciting new technology as soon as possible.

In particular, how smart meters will help customers control their energy usage, save money and cut carbon emissions – while also ensuring bills are accurate automatically.

Emphasising the customer benefits, a new smart metering area on Britishgas.co.uk provides plenty of useful information on smart meters and the insights they give into energy use.

Smart meters will help customers assess the impact of different appliances, and see how they could reduce bills and cut emissions.

Jim Ebbs from the Smart Commercial Team, who has guided the development of the site, said: “British Gas has been ahead of the curve in all aspects of smart metering: we’ve already installed over 100,000 meters, we’ve substantial trialling activity underway and we’re driving the industry on the meter specification and the approach to rollout. It follows that we’d want our customers to know about Smart meters as early as possible.”
